ELGAR results aim to reinforce European
leadership in Atom Interferometry
(AI) and quantum technologies and
principal investigators are convinced
that this project is an opportunity to
generate highly exploitable results with
significant interdisciplinary reach.
The infrastructure would allow very sensitive measurements of gravity. Thus, ELGAR would enable studies of Earth and the location and movements of various fluids in the Earth. This has various environmental impacts. For example, with the increased demand of water, the importance and study of aquifers has grown. The assessment and management of groundwater resources constitute a huge challenge to mitigation of the adverse effects of climate change. The program will also open a new low frequency window for seismic studies and the technology developed within can be transferred to broader use in seismic instrumentation. Evenmore, ELGAR technology will have applications in underground surveying and monitoring of subsoil phenomena.
